COUNCIL OF IMAMS CONDEMN
ATTACK ON AL-AQSA, EVICTIONS OF
PALESTINIAN FAMILIES
JOINT STATEMENT BY COUNCIL OF IMAMS OF SOUTH FLORIDA MUSLIM
FEDERATION INC.

(May 11th, 2021)

(In the Name of Allah Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

Allah, Most High, says in the Glorious Quran:

“Glorious is He Who made his servant travel by night from Al-Masjid-ul-Harām to Al-Masjid-ul-Aqsa whose environs We have blessed, so that We let him see some of Our signs. Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All- Seeing” (17:1)

Further, our Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) declared candidly 14 hundred years ago:

“Do not undertake a journey to visit any Mosque, but three: this Mosque of mine, the Mosque of al-Haram and the Mosque of Aqsa” (Sahih Muslim 1397)

In a nod to pro-settler organizations, the Israeli district court in East Jerusalem recently gave approval to vacate Palestinian families from their homes in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, in favor of Israeli settlers. Palestinians staged a series of sit-ins to denounce this action, and were met with a brutal crackdown consisting of rubber bullets, tear gas, water cannons,  and stun grenades leaving hundreds of civilians injured.

In a complete disregard for peaceful worshipers, Israeli police also attacked the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, using shock grenades, and breaking into the mosque, all during the last days of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Imams’ Council of South Florida strongly condemns the potential removal of Palestinian families from their homes, in which they have lived for generations. The council affirms the right of Palestinians to peacefully protest the ongoing theft of their land and homes, and we stand in solidarity with them. Further, we condemn the actions that Israeli police have taken against civilians who are rightfully protesting the potential forced evictions.

Allah (God Almighty) has honored the human being with dignity,  no human deservers to be forced from their homes. We pray for an end to the occupation, and the use of force against innocent civilians.
