About the South Florida Muslim Federation

Connecting our community.Strengthening South Florida.

SoFlo Muslims brings people, institutions, and resources together to strengthen our Muslim community and help make South Florida better for everyone.

Unite.Empower.Serve.

Serving Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties.

Our Purpose

A connected community can do more.

South Florida has people ready to contribute and institutions working to meet real needs. The Federation helps bring them together.

We connect mosques, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations with the time, expertise, relationships, and resources that help them serve more effectively. Stronger institutions create more opportunities for people to learn, belong, contribute, and support one another.

To be a resource sharing hub that connects, empowers and serves South Florida Muslim organizations.

Representatives from South Florida mosques and organizations gathered in a town hall to explore working together on a shared platform.

  2. 2018 · A shared mission

Member organizations established a collective mission to connect, empower, and serve through shared resources.

  3. 2026 · Renewed direction

New executive leadership and a revised strategy bring sharper focus to institutional strength, community participation, and public benefit.

Our Revised 2026–27 Strategy

A stronger Federation.
A greater public benefit.

Our next chapter builds on the Federation’s founding purpose: organize the strength of our community so institutions can do more and South Florida can benefit.

The board has brought Dr. Tayyab Yunus on as Executive Director to lead this work alongside our staff, member institutions, and community partners.

Our revised strategy focuses on a more useful member experience, purposeful programs, clearer ways to participate, and stronger follow-through. These priorities guide the work we are building for 2026–27.

  1. Make membership more useful.

Shape ongoing relationships and services around what member institutions need to grow and serve.

  2. Focus programs on clear outcomes.

Connect each core program to a clear audience, purpose, and contribution to community well-being.

  3. Strengthen how the work gets done.

Build accountable teams, clear responsibilities, and better coordination across the Federation.

  4. Make participation easier.

Create practical ways for volunteers, professionals, donors, and partners to contribute.

  5. Improve follow-through.

Connect requests to the right people and resources, coordinate action, and learn from results.

  1. People contribute.

Time, professional skills, relationships, and generosity become resources for the community.

  2. Institutions grow stronger.

Organizations gain the talent, support, tools, and partnerships they need to do more.

  3. South Florida benefits.

Stronger institutions deliver better services and create more opportunities to participate and serve.

Our Areas of Work

Three areas. One shared purpose.

Our strategy brings the Federation’s work into focus around institutions, individuals and families, and the wider community.

Membership & Institutional Strengthening

We bring member institutions into a network for shared learning, collaboration, and service. Leadership development, strategic planning, and access to technical expertise are part of the stronger member experience we are building.

Service to South Florida

We bring people together through the Florida Muslim Conference, community relationships, and shared opportunities to serve. We welcome partnerships that help Muslim institutions and the wider South Florida community thrive together.

American Muslim Philanthropy

Our generosity can help South Florida thrive.

Giving is one way to turn community potential into public benefit. We invite individuals, families, businesses, and foundations to invest in stronger institutions and the people they serve.
