Twenty-five years after 9/11, USA TODAY Network – Florida looked at where Florida’s Muslim communities stand — and turned to our own leaders to tell that story. Samir Kakli, interim executive director of the South Florida Muslim Federation, spoke candidly about the safety concerns our communities still navigate, while Sheryar Wahid of the Islamic Foundation of South Florida reflected on how much has been built: masajid, schools, civic relationships, and a growing Muslim presence in public life.

“Politicians always need something to fight against because it gives them traction, and this year it seems … that traction is Islam,” Wahid told the outlet — a reminder that the unity of our community matters now as much as ever.

Our community has weathered every wave that has come its way, and that resilience is our story. Alhamdulillah for leaders willing to represent this deen with dignity on a statewide stage.
