WLRN recently featured South Florida Muslim Federation’s Imam Azhar Subedar and attorney Khurrum Wahid as part of their coverage of the Florida Senate’s passage of SB 1632 — a bill that would grant top state officials the authority to designate organizations as “domestic terrorist organizations.”
Khurrum Wahid was direct in his assessment: “There’s no question this bill is targeting Muslim Floridians.” He added that he’s confident legal challenges will follow, saying, “I’m also pretty confident that the First Amendment will win.”
Imam Azhar spoke to the broader impact the legislation has on everyday Americans: “The societal impact is that the fear mongering has only amplified with the government taking these steps,” adding that the bill “doesn’t put anyone in a good position because that freedom is no longer freedom.”
