Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive and administrative leader of the South Florida Muslim Federation (SFMF), responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization and for executing the strategic plan and policies established by the Executive Committee (EC).
Working in close partnership with the EC, the Executive Director advances the Federation’s mission, strengthens collaboration among member organizations, and ensures effective operations, programs, and community impact.
The Executive Director provides leadership, coordination, and operational oversight while respecting the governance role of the EC. Some initiatives will be executed independently by the Executive Director and staff, while others may require close collaboration with the EC.
Key Responsibilities*
Organizational Leadership & Strategy Execution
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Federation in alignment with its mission, values, and Executive-Committee-approved strategic plan.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable work plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
- Provide regular updates to the Board on progress toward strategic priorities, organizational performance, and emerging opportunities or risks.
- Serve as a thought partner to the Board in identifying new initiatives, partnerships, and areas of growth.
Program & Member Engagement
- Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of Federation programs, initiatives, and services.
- Support and strengthen relationships among member mosques and organizations, fostering collaboration and shared impact.
- Coordinate multi-stakeholder initiatives that may involve Board members, community leaders, and external partners.
- Represent the Federation at community events, meetings, and convenings, as appropriate.
Board Relations & Governance Support
- Attend all Board and relevant committee meetings as a non-voting staff participant.
- Prepare reports, updates, and materials for Board review and decision-making.
- Implement Board policies and decisions in a timely and effective manner.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with the Board while respecting the Board’s governance and oversight role.
Fundraising & Resource Development
- Conduct fundraising efforts by providing operational support, data, materials, and follow-through as requested.
- Assist in grant identification, reporting, and stewardship, where applicable.
- Ensure responsible financial management and alignment of resources with strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the Board Treasurer and Executive Committee on budget implementation and financial reporting.
Operations & Administration
- Oversee administrative systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
- Manage staff, including regular performance reviews.
- Manage vendors, consultants, and contractors as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
- Support the development and maintenance of organizational infrastructure as the Federation grows.
Communications & External Relations
- Support the Federation’s public presence and messaging in alignment with Board guidance.
- Serve as a key point of contact for partners, allied organizations, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate communications related to Federation initiatives, statements, and activities, as appropriate.
- Compile and publish the Annual Report each year.

- Organizational leadership and execution — ability to manage day-to-day operations and move projects forward reliably via the establishment of systems and tracking progress.
- Relationship building — ability to build trust and maintain productive relationships with member organizations, community leaders, and partners.
- Nonprofit fundraising experience — oversee growth, cultivation, and stewardship of a large donor base, along with successful event-based fundraising (conference) to achieve targets.
- Communication skills — strong written and verbal communication, public speaking experience, as well as the ability to communicate clearly with board members, staff, community leaders, and external partners.
- Knowledge and familiarity of Muslim nonprofits, mosque operations, and challenges.
- Professional judgment and discretion — ability to handle sensitive matters responsibly and represent the organization with professionalism.
