SFL Muslim Federation meets WPTV

South Florida Muslim Federation’s Outreach Committee Chair, Maha Elkolalli, Esq., Represents SoFlo Muslims on WPTV’s ‘Community Diversity Advisory Panel’

South Florida Muslim Federation’s Outreach Committee Chair, Maha Elkolalli, became part of a ‘Community Dirversity Advisory Panel’ on an invitation from WPTV-Channel 5. The initiative is an effort to help improve and diversify news coverage to include different communities living in the area. The virtual meeting took place between community leaders and news decision makers from WPTV.

While representing the Muslim community, Maha spoke about the different issues affecting local Muslims such as Islamophobia/hate crimes, the Muslim Ban, the Muslim community’s contributions to the community at large, and the impact of COVID19 on the Federation members. She also talked about how the Muslim community may be involved with other agencies.  

Other panelists included Sue-Ellen Sanders, Community Development Manager Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County; Maricela Torres, Executive Director Esperanza Community Center; Jessica Parrish, CEO, United Way of SLC United Way of St. Lucie County, Inc.; Josephine Gon, Vice President, Jewish Community Relations Council; Phil Hutchinson, Lawyer & Shareholder Greenberg Traurig; Sean Boyle, Executive Director Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County; and Ken Singletary,  Kids at Hope Project Coordinator & Treasure Hunter.
