South Florida Muslim Federation, CAIR- FL, & MSA Middle & High Schools attended School Principals Breakfast Meeting sponsored by City of Pembroke Pines to discuss cultural diversity & sensitivity in the school system.
In attendance at the meeting were Mayor Frank Ortis, City Manger Charles Dodge, Commissioners Iris Siple, Thomas Good, SBBC Diversity Department member Tom Albano, representatives of South Florida Muslim Federation (Shehryar Wahid, Yunus Ismail and Gibson Lopez), CAIR-FL (Imam Abdullah Jaber and Wilfredo Ruiz), MSA Middle & High Schools (Naima Khan and student reps), and principals of several Pines district schools.
The meeting was part of the on-going efforts to convey the Muslim perspective and educate schools’ administration following the unfortunate incident at Franklin Academy back in December 2022.
A meeting with city leadership was held in January as well as an op-ed was published in SunSentinel in December in this regard. The community leaders present at the occasion vowed to continue to promote the Muslim point of view and create awareness about Muslim customs.
