Muslim Women’s Organization of South Florida (MWO)

Posted on June 13, 2018

The Muslim Women’s Organization of South Florida (MWO-SFL) consists of women from throughout the South Florida Muslim community working together to improve their lives and their community. We accomplish this by supporting existing community initiatives and providing opportunities for women and their families to get involved and make a difference.

The MWO’s mission is to encourage Muslim women and their families to be a meaningful group committed to community service, outreach, personal development, & social services.

MWO-SFL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity organization registered in Florida.

*  MWO @ Project Downtown Fort Lauderdale – Saturday, May 11, 2019

Thank you to our wonderful community (that’s all of you!!!) for supporting MWO’s collaboration with Project Downtown-Fort Lauderdale.  It is always an uplifting experience witnessing the giving nature of our community and also a reminder of all our blessings and how our Prophet (PBUH) empathized and always helped the poor.

On Saturday, our community via MWO helped to feed some of our homeless brothers and sisters in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  Your generous contributions provided lunch boxes, water, snacks and friendly faces.  The recipients were so happy to have “chicken” for lunch…alhamdulillah for the small blessings that we often take for granted.

Because of you, we were able to exceed our annual goal for the Lunch Box Program and make monetary donations to both Project Downtown-Fort Lauderdale and Project Downtown-Miami so that they can provide meals on days when there is no sponsorship from the community.  We were also able to distribute many of the women’s hygiene kits that were donated this year as part of our MWO 2019 initiative.

Pictured here: Some of the volunteers on Saturday.  Not pictured here: loads of behind the scene volunteers, donations, helpful hands and prayers from our community.  Love and thanks to everyone!

MWO is a means through which we can all get connected to the wider community, therefore if you would like to get together with your friends and family to feed the homeless, contact Project Downtown-Fort Lauderdale, pick a date (every Saturday at 1pm), and just go down and be a part of the solution and experience…THE JOY OF GIVING!

May Allah shower his blessings on each and every donor and volunteer and the greater South Florida community as we Rush for the Rewards this Ramadan, Insha Allah.

*  MWO @ Soup Kitchen and Helping Handbag Initiative – Sunday, April 28, 2019

On Sunday, April 28 MWO volunteers had the opportunity to serve Brunch at the Broward Partnership for the Homeless in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  We were also able to deliver a large number of the Helping Handbags and hygiene kits that our community donated as part of the MWO women’s 2019 initiative.  The recipients were extremely grateful for our presence and support.

Broward Partnership for the Homeless provides incredible service to 500 homeless men, women & children who want to improve their lives. They help to transition clients from homelessness into stable housing.  The center offers free meals, healthcare, job and educational training and a workable chance at a fresh start.

May Allah accept and reward all of our volunteers and sisters who helped contribute to this very important initiative.

*  MWO @ Lotus House – Helping Handbag Initiative – April, 2019

Many thanks to our amazing sisters Faika and Naila for making the delivery of Helping Handbags and hygiene kits to Lotus House on Wednesday – we love you both!

Lotus House provides incredible service to 500 homeless women & children who want to improve their lives. Free childcare from 2 months-2 yrs. They make sure each child is enrolled in school. Free GED program onsite. Various training programs. This will be a well-deserved place to donate our excess toys and books from the upcoming MWO Eid Toy Drive!

May Allah accept and reward all of our volunteers and sisters who helped contribute to this very important women’s initiative.

*  MWO Helping Handbag Initiative – Volunteer Day – April, 2019

A huge thank you to all our MWO volunteers who came out on Saturday to help sort and organize all of the handbags and hygiene items and to everyone who contributed to this humbling initiative.  Alhamdulillah, our community is always ready to give the best of themselves.

Together we are able to give over 200 beautiful handbags and women’s hygiene kits to four amazing organizations: Nur Center for Women and Children, Lotus House, Project Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and Broward Partnership for the Homeless.

We want to thank you all for everything that you do to uplift this community.  You are all truly changemakers, making the world a better place!  Jazak Allah Khair.

*  MWO – Masjid Representatives Appreciation – March, 2019

MWO was honored to invite all of our MWO Masjid Representatives on Sunday March 3rd to show our sincere appreciation for their all efforts and express to them the integral part of the work that MWO is able to do here in South Florida because of women like them.  The MWO Masjid Representatives are our eyes, ears and helping hands and without their help and support we would not have the impact and the reach that we do.

We had a very productive meeting where various topics and ideas were discussed. It was so inspiring to hear about each of these ladies and how they themselves are impacting their local communities.  By listening and learning we will all grow together and make the impact and change that we would all like to see in our wonderful South Florida community!

In honor of National Women’s History Month, the next time you see your Masjid Representative, give them a big hug, say thanks and celebrate their contributions.  Alhamdulillah.

Many thanks to our MWO Masjid Representatives from Nur ul Islam, Masjid Al Ansar, Masjid Jamaat Al’Mu-mineen, Darul Uloom, Jamaat ul Muttaqeen, Islamic Center of Boca, Nur ul Islam Madrassah, Islamic Jaffaria Association Miami, Islamic Center of South Florida, Islamic Foundation of South Florida, Clara Mohammed School, Islamic Society of Miami, Muslim Community of Palm Beach, Miami Gardens Masjid, Masjid Ibrahim, Masjid Shamsuddin, and Tarbiya Masjid of Fort Lauderdale.

*  Team “Tribe Smile” @ Unity in Diversity – March, 2019

“O you mankind, surely We created you of a male and a female, and We have made you races and tribes that you may get mutually acquainted.”

So proud of all the sisters and brothers who came out on a beautiful Saturday morning to participate in the Unity in Diversity 5K walk and festivities!  Many thanks to our MWO members, Friends of Humanity, Nur Center for Women and Children, Cosmos, Miami Gardens Masjid and Jamaat ul Muttaqeen who worked together to help sponsor and support the Sikh community and our neighbors.

The atmosphere was wonderful!  Many faiths (Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, Jews, and Christians) were present and everyone celebrated the diversity and the message of unity.  Over 400 people attended and together we helped to raise $10,000 towards the Southwest Ranches Scholarship Fund!

One of the former presidents of the Sikh temple expressed her remorse about the New Zealand tragedy and voiced how now more than ever we must all unite and stand for peace.  Insha Allah.
