In his opening remarks to the last weekend’s Imams’ Panel Discussion on ‘Making our houses into homes’, Imam Subedar said:

‘For some it may be a bit concerning as to what’s the difference between a house and a home? It is the memories that we make in a house that makes it vibrant- a home. But more important is the question on how we can make a house into a home?’

This and other important questions about building a strong home and maintaining a cohesive family structure were discussed during a panel discussion that took place last Saturday. Organized by South Florida Muslim Federation and hosted by Islamic Center of Greater Miami (ICGM), the event brought respected Imams and scholars from different regional mosques including Imam Abdul Hamid Samra (ICGM), Sheikh Tarek Chebbi (Masjid Al-Faiza), Imam Izhar Khan (MJAM), and Sheikh Moaz Hossain (ICGM). The discussion was moderated by Imam Azhar Subedar, advisor and development director for SFL Muslim Federation.

The panelists talked about different aspects of a home including respect for and treatment with parents, how to raise our children, significance of marriage for keeping homes together and and how to make spiritual practices the core of a home. They each explained how we can strengthen our homes by following the values taught to us by the Quran and Sunnah and the traditions passed down from generations.

The event was attended by a large number of congregants and community members from across the tri-county area, who not only appreciated the effort but hope that more such events were organized in future as well. The complete panel discussion can be viewed below. Included here are some of the glimpses from the program.
