Florida Muslim civil rights group launches ‘know your rights’ tour (Orlando Sentinel)
The state’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group on Friday announced a statewide “Know Your Rights Tour” to educate Muslims on their rights as voters, when at school or work, when traveling and when being questioned by law enforcement.
The Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the tour, in response to the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld the Trump administration’s Muslim travel ban, will kick off on July 16 in Sunrise.
The group’s communications director, Wilfredo Ruiz, said there will be several stops in Central Florida, but no dates have been set yet.
“We will educate members of our Muslim communities state-wide about their civil and human rights and stand with them in the courtroom whenever their rights are violated, CAIR-Florida’s Regional Operations Director, Nezar Hamze, said in a news release. “We will also explain their right to vote and mobilize them to GOTV (get out to vote). No more complaining – Only Voting!”
