In keeping with its mission to serve the South Florida Muslim community, SFL Muslim Federation in collaboration with CAIR-FL, hosted a brief session with tri-county Muslim community leadership to give them some important security reminders regarding Tuesday’s election.

While elaborating on the topic, Nezar Hamze, Executive Director for SFL Muslim Federation, said that there weren’t any direct threats to a specific mosque or community, there were, however, speculations as well as announcements from some extreme militia groups for taking up arms if there is an unfavorable result. In wake of these calls, he emphasized that all mosques and Islamic Centers beefed up their security at least for the next two weeks, especially for large congregations like Jumma’h prayers.

Joining him in these assertions was CAIR-FL Omar Saleh, Civil Rights Attorney. Saleh focused more on threats or intimidations that voters could potentially face at the voting sites. He strongly recommended involving both police and polling station supervisors to avoid any violent escalation. He also provided with a list of phone numbers, added below,  that may be used to report intimidations or to request help.
